Jewish Languages Other Than Hebrew
Originally, the language of the Jews was Hebrew, but it died out as the everyday language spoken by Jewish people by about the 2nd century CE, although later the language of Hebrew would be revived and become the spoken language of Jews living in the State of Israel. As Hebrew died out as a spoken language, Jews adopted other languages for their everyday conversation and even developed languages of their own. The two best known of these 'Jewish' languages are Yiddish and Ladino. Jews also often spoke the language of the country where they lived, but wrote it in the Hebrew alphabet which is entirely phonetic.
