Judaism and Literature
Jews are known as 'the People of the Book'. The 'book' referred to is the (Hebrew) Bible, but the phrase also reflects a basic reality about Jews and Judaism - the importance of books and literacy. The (Hebrew) Bible is the foundation of Judaism, but thre are also many other texts which contribute to the overall texture of Judaim. For further details about the Jewish Bible and the Talmud, please follow the links at the right side of this page. For detailed information about other Jewish texts, please see our Texts section which has individual pages on a number of different texts.
